Prepare the Way of the Lord

Happy New Year!

Every year I pick a Bible verse to guide me through the year ahead.  Last year’s was “This one thing I do forgetting what lies behind I press on”. That was a selfish verse to pick, as I choose it for my benefit only.

This year’s verse is “Prepare the way of the Lord”. To me it is about more than going to heaven.  In this broken and fragmented world we all need to do what we can to be more loving, forgiving, kind and accepting of each other.  In doing so the world will be more like the world Jesus envisioned. This is our calling, our way of living a spiritual life and no one else’s’.  We cannot depend on others to make the world holy.  It is up to us. So be a river of love, which you were created to be.  Let judgement, an inability to forgive and resentment characterize others – not you. This is the best way to live.

On the health front the news is not good.  I believe that my time on this earth will very soon come to an end.  My tumor is growing fast and seems to be in control.  I am not scared to die, but am so sad about what I will miss.   There is much more that I wanted to see and do in my life and at Mount Olivet, but that is not in my control.  I leave to God and you to prepare the way of the Lord.

Thank you for reading these simple posts and for sharing them with others. It has all been an honor.  Together let us keep the faith, look upward, travel onward, and be not afraid.  Let’s also prepare the way of the Lord here on earth.

Love you,

  1. Pastor John,
Thank you for your example of faith and trust in the Lord. God bless you and all your loved ones as you pass between this world and heaven.

  2. You and your family have been an amazing example of being Christ to others. Thank you for sharing your journey and truths with all of us and thank you for being real! The Hoganson Family has always lived this verse!
    Colossians 3:12New International Version (NIV)

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

God Bless you all and give you peace and comfort and rest. Love – Beth
